Mauritius is an African small island country on the east of Madagascar Island and popular as a sea resort. I visited there in July which is winter for southern hemisphere and low season. Temperature is mild at 15℃ in morning but it is a bit chilly to swim. Hence, I came up with experiencing nature on the land.
My travel plan was short, staying only 2 nights there but I wanted to relax to feel the resort atmosphere. I did not investigate detail about my travel destination unlike I usually do and just booked a hotel and asked the hotel owner for any attractive outdoor activity. I decided to have an 6 hours excursion at Tamarin Falls with a local guide. "Tamarin Falls" means a group of several cascades in Tamarin area as you see on the picture above. The tour guide picked me up at the hotel in early morning to avoid traffic jam in commuting time. Downtown and sugarcane farm appear in turn. |
Starting point of our hike. Our route is a round trip, starting with descending (more precisely, going up and down) a trail along with Tamarin River with cascades and then hiking up to a road returning to the starting point. The other side of the road on the picture seems to be a Hindu graveyard. |

There are fishes in water pools isolated from the river. The fishes dub my fingers to eat deadskin when I put my hand into the pool. Here you can get Dr. Fish Therapy for free! |

We saw another group climbing up from our destination. One guy jumped down from the top of the waterfall. |
These are a flock of bats. I misunderstand they were birds unless my tour guide told me. |

Photo with Fred, a wonderful tour guide from sea2peakADVENTURES. He was always smiling when taking picture. How he behaves is telling how he loves nature. He took pictures of me and later shared with me. Some of them are in this page. |

Walking on the river where water flows underground. I never know a correct route without Fred because there is no clear trail or trace.

We arrived water-power plant that is at a bottom of our route today. Next, we hiked up to a road leading to our starting point. It is about 40 minutes' walk at a slow pace.
Although there is a paved road connecting to the other side of this building, the road is only for employees of the power plant and not open to public. The trail we go up used to be a commuting route for the employees. |

Our round trip ended after a walk for 20 minutes on the road between sugarcane farms. Mauritian sky was blue surrounded by clean air. |

Menu is different everyday by local's own. |
