Mt. Whitney (4418m) is the highest mountain in continental U.S. except for Alaska though it is much less well-known than Mt. MacKinley. Mt. Whitney is located in California where I used to live. I had already had an idea of definitely visiting there during my stay in California before I left Japan.
Mt. Whitney is at almost south end of the Sierra Nevada and is stood in the southern part of the Sequoia National Park. Although the Rocky is kind of the roof of America containing many high mountains over 4000m, Mt Whitney is slightly higher than Mt. Elbert which is highest in the American Rocky. To enter the Mt. Whitney Zone in summer, you need a permit by applying for the lottery because they limit the number of the people. (ask Inyo National Forest) |
